Education
CPD for Doctors
Within the practice, all the GPs meet for coffee after their morning surgery at 11.00am providing an opportunity for discussion and informal learning, usually related to something that has happened during the morning surgery. We aim to support each other and any new partner would be supported and encouraged to share experiences. We are also very lucky in this area in that there is excellent communication between practices and the newly built, state of the art local hospital (Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI)) and consultants are usually very willing to offer informal advice.
There is also a very active post graduate education department at DGRI that facilitate regular meetings for GPs.
Support is provided within the practice to ensure that all the partners meet the requirements for their appraisal and for revalidation.
Child Education
There are a number of nurseries located within Dumfries and numerous primary schools within the town boundaries all providing high quality education. There are also nurseries and primary schools in a number of the outlying villages.
Within the town, there are four secondary schools namely Dumfries Academy, St Josephs, Dumfries High School and Maxwelltown High.
The school all of which have a good reputation for academic achievement. There are no private schools within the region therefore most children are educated within the state system.
Further information on schools in the region can be obtained from Dumfries and Galloway Council
Further Education
Both the University of Glasgow and University of West of Scotland have Campuses in Dumfries providing a range of courses including Nursing and Fine Arts. They also offer a number of short courses and vocational training courses.
Dumfries also has a further education college based on the Crichton Campus next door to the Universities and the Barony agricultural college based just outside Dumfries at Parkgate.
